After a gastric balloon is inserted, 90% of the patients do not experience lack of appetite. You will be under a strict liquid diet for the first 3 days but you will not feel hunger. Most women lose 2-4 kg and men 4-8 kg a week.
In 1-2 weeks, you may get up an appetite but it generally it goes away or easily satisfied when you eat something. Our patients say that they feel full with a few tsp of yogurt or two small chicken pieces.
You should eat slowly and carefully during this process. If you overeat, your body will send signals in case you’re experiencing bloating, reflux, hiccups or indigestion. It’s important to carefully read these signs.
In 6-8 weeks, you should be able to gradually increase the amount of food you eat, not as much as you used to, of course. During this time, your weight loss, however, will gradually decrease and finally stop.
90% of the weight loss with gastric balloon happens during the first 3 months. The next 3 months is mostly about maintaining your weight.
In case your appetite grows or weight loss stops, balloon volume might be increased to support your weight loss process.
