There are two golden rules we recommend our Gastric Balloon patients to minimize any risk and contribute to weight loss and maintain it:
- Small portions
- Use small plates (like saucers or children dishes) and prefer palm sized portions.
- Use small cups, not big ones.
- Do not put too much food on the table; serve your food in measured portions.
- Do not eat all the food on your plate.
- Go slowly!
- Spare at least 20 minutes to finish your meal. This will help you chew your meal longer and therefore feel better.
- Drink your beverages slowly ( you can use a straw to do that); drinking too fast will cause bloating and discomfort.
- Wait at least 30 minutes for another meal. Brain does not have a direct connection to the stomach; eating something else right after having finished a meal will make you eat more and feel uncomfortable.
These rules will prevent you from eating too much and provide satiety again. If you don’t follow these rules, you may experience reflux or cramps, so you will eventually have to change your habits.
Your new eating habits will carry on and help weight loss after the balloon is removed.
